Paddle-A-Thon 2010 - April 17-18

What an unforgettable weekend of paddling, great friends, amazing food, and all for a good cause!

The Cause

groupofgirls.jpgEach year the Paddle-a-Thon raises funds that are put towards the Summer Staff Bursary Fund. This fund was established to help our volunteer staff who return to college or university after the summer, to still be able to spend their summers at camp and have something to put towards the ever rising costs of tuition.

The Paddling

p-thon4.jpgIt is a 2 day paddle trip on the Fraser River, which begins in Hope and ends at Fort Langley. In 2010 the event is scheduled for April 17&18. Paddlers will experience the serene beauty of the Fraser River up-close while enjoying each other's company. The floating convoy is accompanied by a Zodiac safety boat and travels at a comfortable pace. You are welcome to bring along your own kayak or canoe. Or you can get a group of friends together and paddle in one of our larger voyageur canoes (10 or 14 people). See the links in the brown box for more information on becoming a paddler.

The Friends

paddle-a-thon 8.jpgYou can either bring your friends with you or come on your own. Either way you'll meet new people and maybe even reconnect with old friends. If you are on the water there's lots of time to enjoy the scenery and the company of those around you. In order to make this event a success there is a large crew that provides ground support to the paddlers. So if paddling isn't for you, you can still raise money and contribute to this event.

 The Food

What kind of camp event would this be without good food! There are a lot of donations contributed by local businesses and individuals in Hope, Chillwack and Abbotsford. This helps keep the cost of the event to a minimum. Hot, delicious meals are served at stops along the way, with nutritious snacks provided for energy while on the water.

General Schedule

p-thon1.jpgThe weekend begins on Saturday morning with put in at Hope. The paddlers take lunch on the water with them and the ground crew goes to set up the campground for supper. Around Chilliwack the paddlers dock on dry land and are welcomed with a BBQ supper. After a hearty breakfast in the morning, the paddlers are off again. They stop for a warm lunch, near Mission and then it's back on the water for the home stretch to Fort Langley. Once the boats arrive at Fort Langley, supper is had and the weekend ends off with door prizes, the announcement of the total raised so far and the unveiling of who raised the most money and therefore earned for themselves a brand new outfitted canoe! So please consider joining us for this fun and successful event.
